Finally confirmed: Swimming pool in Aalborg cannot be saved

A fire has broken out in the roof of the Swimming Pool in Samsøgade.

Nordjyske has been in contact with the emergency services, which are busy, but characterize it as a “big fire”.

– We are progressing with the dispatch and the incident leader, it is stated.

– Nightmare

The swimming hall is municipal, but not with public swimming – on the other hand, it is used by Aalborg Swimming Club, which usually uses the hall for its members.

– As far as I know, no one was inside training when the fire broke out, says the chairman of the swimming club, John Larsen to Nordjyske.

– But it is every union man’s nightmare that seems to have happened, says the chairman.

Elite classes are affected

The big fire in Svømmehallen Østre Allé doesn’t just make hundreds of members of Aalborg Svømmeklub homeless.

Swimming chairman John Larsen says that the hall is also home to training for students in the elite classes at Sønderbro School.

According to John Larsen, the swimming hall consists of six lanes, which are 25 meters long.

Roofing cardboard flies around

A citizen who lives in the Øgade district in Aalborg reports to Nordjyske that pieces of roofing felt and cardboard are flying around and landing on the streets and balconies nearby.

The emergency response manager, Nils Eltzholtz, tells Nordjyske that the swimming pool is burning down.

He also says that the roof structure has collapsed and is lying in the pool of the swimming pool.

On the other hand, it has been possible to save the changing room, technical room and an office. But all three parts are smoke damaged.
