Final stretch: see preparation tips for the São Silvestre race

The end of the year is not just regarding parties and get-togethers. Thousands of amateur athletes in the country prepare for months for São Silvestre. The traditional street race is held in the city of São Paulo every December 31st and those who are preparing for it have already reached the final training stretch. Even in the final stretch of the year, you need to keep training. “Preparation consists of at least three to four months leading up to the race. Our organism and our muscle-tendon structure need to be adapted to the impacts of running on our body. As well as our heart in order to avoid possible injuries during the journey itself and even a heart attack”, explains personal trainer Cassio Lucca.

Injury prevention

Orthopedist Gabriel Pecchia also highlights the need to be careful with muscle contractures and tendonitis. “To prevent injuries, it is important to warm up before running and stretch followingwards, respecting your body’s limits and avoiding overtraining. It is also recommended to undergo an orthopedic evaluation before participating in the race to check if there are any contraindications or health risks”, adds Pecchia.
