PARIS: The final list for the Ballon d’Or Trophy has been announced by organizers France Football magazine. The list includes superstar Lionel Messi, who led Argentina to World Cup victory in 2022, Erling Haaland, who won the major treble with English club Manchester City last season, and last year’s winner, Karim Benzema. The award will be announced on October 30.

Messi, who is a seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, has the most chances this time. The star’s strength is the performance that led Argentina to the World Cup victory in Qatar. On the other hand, Holland, who recently won the UEFA Player of the Year award, is also in the lead. For the first time in 20 years, Cristiano Ronaldo did not make the list.

Barcelona’s Alexia Putias, who won the award twice last time, is not included in the women’s list this time. Chelsea’s Sam Kerr, Millie Bright and Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati, who won the Women’s World Cup with Spain last month, are also included in the women’s 30-man squad.

World Cup winner Emiliano Martinez, City star Ederson and La Liga Golden Glove winner Marc-Andre Terstegen are among the shortlists for the Best Goalkeeper Award (Yashin Award).
