Final in Doha: Salt Bae on the pitch – Fifa launch investigation into World Cup celebrations
Argentina defeated France in a penalty shootout in what was arguably the best World Cup final in history. After the win there was no holding back. Fifa is now investigating what happened on the pitch.
The world football association apparently wants to investigate the incidents at the closing ceremony of the World Cup in Qatar following the Argentine team won the title. Fifa has found that people in the Lusail Stadium have gained unauthorized access to the field, the world association told several media and announced that internal measures would be taken accordingly.
Lionel Messi and company’s celebrations following beating France on penalties included a famous restaurateur known as Salt Bae taking photos with Argentinian players. There are also pictures of him holding the World Cup trophy.
Salt Bae upsets fans worldwide
Football fans around the world were unimpressed on Sunday night when Salt Bae following the Argentina triumph in the World Cup final stepped onto the pitch trying to snap selfies with the winning team and the World Cup. In post-game footage, Salt Bae is, real name Nusret Gökçeseen trying to hug Messi but the player seems to completely ignore him and instead keeps hugging his teammates.
Later he was still successful: Videos and pictures of the star chef soon circulated, showing him posing with Angel di Maria or Cristian Romero and, of course, the World Cup. In addition to Romero, Gökçe even unpacks the world-famous salt-bae gesture. Later he also gets the coveted picture with superstar Lionel Messi.
André Noruega, a Norwegian sports journalist, shared a screenshot showing the official rules for the trophy, which state that it “may only be touched and held by a very select group of people, including former World Cup winners and heads of state ». Noruega commented: «Um, okay. So Salt Bae is either a world champion or a head of state.”
