Of the rumors circulated that Final Fantasy XVI would arrive in June, and during the Game Awards, the information was confirmed. Square Enix also released a new trailer for the game, this time focusing on the theme of revenge. The trailer shows plenty of bloody betrayals and vows of revenge, but it also offers a healthy dose of action and clashes between the giant Eikons. Check it out for yourself below:

« Final Fantasy XVI brings players to Valisthea, which is dotted with Mother Crystals, shimmering mountains of crystal that tower over the realms around them and bless them with ether. For generations, people have flocked to these beacons to enjoy their blessing, using the ether to conjure magicks that allow them to live lives of comfort and abundance. Great powers have grown around each mother crystal, and a fragile peace has long reigned between them. But today, the peace wavers as the spread of the Scourge threatens to destroy their dominions.
Eikons are the most powerful and deadly creatures in Valisthea. Each of them resides in a Dominant – a unique male or female who has the ability to call upon their awesome power. In some nations these Dominants are treated like royalty in awe of this force – in others they are bound in fear of this force and forced to serve as weapons of war. Those born Dominants cannot escape their fate, however cruel.
Final Fantasy XVI follows Clive Rosfield, a young man dedicated to mastering the blade, who is nicknamed the First Shield of Rosaria and charged with protecting his younger brother Joshua, the Dominant of the Phoenix. Unexpected events set Clive on a dark and dangerous path to revenge.« .
Final Fantasy XVI launches on PS5 on June 22, 2023, and pre-orders are open now. The game will be exclusive to the PS5 for at least six monthswith Square Enix yet to reveal what happens next.
