Final Fantasy Tactics has been a fan-favorite game since its initial release on Playstation in 1997. Final Fantasy Tactics Advance from 2003 (and its sequel on DS) also generated a lot of interest, but the series has not seen a sequel since.

In an interview given to TheGamer.com, Final Fantasy producer and director Naoki Yoshida (also known as Yoshi-P) is faced with the question of whether we will ever get another game in the Tactics series. Yoshida’s response is not very concrete, but it is positive!

“Many members of our team have worked on previous games like Final Fantasy Tactics or Final Fantasy 12, so you will find that atmosphere [Tactics] because a lot of people are on the team.

“We love Tactics too. It’s probably time to make a new one. »

If anyone at Square Enix has the power to make a new Final Fantasy Tactics game happen, it’s probably the director and producer of recent titles like Final Fantasy XIV, XVI, and more. ! Yoshida has stated that Final Fantasy XVI would not be a good template for a new Tactics game, leading one to believe that a sequel would be something entirely different.

The Final Fantasy Tactics series is a series of turn-based strategy games developed and published by Square Enix, formerly SquareSoft. The series originated with the release of “Final Fantasy Tactics” for the PlayStation in 1997 in Japan and in 1998 in North America. Led by Yasumi Matsuno, the game received critical acclaim for its tactical depth, complex story, and ranking system.

  • Final Fantasy Tactics (1997): The first game in the series, “Final Fantasy Tactics”, is often considered a classic of the genre. It takes place in the fictional world of Ivalice, where the player follows the story of Ramza Beoulve, a nobleman who finds himself embroiled in a complex war involving nobles, knights, wizards and dragons. The combat system is grid-based, where players move their characters around a battlefield and choose from a variety of classes and actions.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (2003) : This game was released for the Game Boy Advance and follows the story of Marche Radiuju, a young boy who finds himself transported to the fantasy world of Ivalice after finding a mysterious book. The gameplay is similar to its predecessor, with some tweaks and new features, but the story and tone are lighter and more suited to younger audiences.
  • Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift (2007) : A sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, also released on the Nintendo DS, which follows the story of Luso Clemens, a teenager transported to the world of Ivalice. The game offers similar gameplay mechanics to the previous installment, but with new classes, races and quests.
