We’ve been waiting for those! While they have been available on PC (and that we already call them our wishes at this moment), them Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster finally took advantage of the 35th anniversary of the license to announce themselves on Switch et PS4. Starting next spring, you will be able to discover these six legendary adventures (finally, rather these five legendary adventures, and also Final Fantasy II) in these versions with sprites and effects redone to try to restore on our modern screens the rendering of the original games on CRTs. We take this opportunity to advise you this interview of Kazuko Shibuyaan artist who took care of the characters on the original games and reworked them for this release.
The Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster were also an opportunity for Square Enix to unify and modernize the gameplay of the six games a little: you can now forget spells, save anywhere on the map (and make quick backups almost anywhere), optimize your equipment at the touch of a button, move diagonally, explore cities in more natural ways, or even race on the world map. The localization has also been reworked (remember that the six games are available in French), while a new font has been implemented: moving away from the spirit of the old one, it has also caused some controversy.
These six Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster will be available on theeShop at rates which should resemble those practiced on Steam (namely €11.99 for the first two then €17.99 for the other four), but also in a limited edition physical collection sold 74,99€ only on the store of Square Enix. A collector’s edition including the games, 2 vinyls containing the very good arrangements made on these releases, an artbook as well as eight figurines is also on sale for – behave well — 274,99€ on the same site. Note that it is possible, depending on your place of residence and your luck, that you may be subject to additional customs fees when you receive the package.
