At the FIM Awards in Rimini, the new world champions were celebrated and awarded for hours. FIM President Jorge Viegas was in his element.
Last Saturday evening, the magnificent “Palacongressi Rimini IEG Expo” served for the first time as a worthy setting for the “2022 FIM Awards”, the end-of-season celebration at which the world association honored the new motorcycle world champions. As this region has traditionally had a strong passion for motorcycling and is home to many teams and riders, the FIM essentially went back to the roots of GP racing.
The evening in Rimini fulfilled the expectations of the many racing drivers, team owners, team managers and sponsors who had come. The numerous “2022 FIM World Champions” were warmly welcomed and rewarded with much applause when the FIM family gathered with its newly re-elected President Jorge Viegas for the annual FIM Awards.
More than 800 guests gathered inside the impressive building. Entertaining entertainment was provided, the officials of the 115 FIM member associations had previously met. You saw motorcycle legends, many well-known FIM members, organizers, manufacturers and so on.
The event might be followed via a live stream, and the quartet James Toseland, Barbara Pedrotti, Amy Reynolds and Matt Roberts led the evening skilfully and energetically as presenters on stage.
World Champions from all six disciplines were heard during the ceremony: circuit racing; track racing; Motocross; enduro; Cross country rallies and trials. All world champions received their diplomas and other awards.
The award ceremony started with the “2022 FIM Trophies” for the FIM Women in Motorcycling Trophy, Women’s European Cup (Italy); FIM Environmental Trophy, Escuderia Castelo Branco, First training for Enduro Kids (Portugal); FIM Trophy for the Future, Yamaha bLU cRU Project and FIM Road Safety Trophy, Edustrada and the PNES Project (Italy).
FIM Circuit Racing Director Franck Vayssié then awarded the Circuit Racing category medals: FIM Sidecar Rider World Champion – Todd Ellis; FIM Sidecar Passenger World Champion – Emmanuelle Clément; FIM Supersport World Champion – Dominique Aegerter; FIM Moto3 Grand Prix World Champion – Izan Guevara and FIM Moto2 Grand Prix World Champion – Augusto Fernández.
Then FIM Motocross Commission Director Antonio Alia took the stage to honor FIM 85cc Junior Motocross World Champion – Gyan Doensen; FIM S1GP SuperMoto World Champion – Marc-Reiner Schmidt; FIM Women’s Motocross World Champion – Nancy van de Ven and FIM WSX World Supercross Champion – Ken Roczen.
FIM Deputy President Ignacio Verneda handed out the Trial category awards to FIM Trial3 World Champion – Harry Hemingway; FIM Trial2 World Champion – Sondre Haga; FIM Women’s Trial World Champion – Emma Bristow and FIM X-Trial World Champion – Toni Bou.
Enduro legend Petteri Silvan looked following enduro heroes like FIM Youth Enduro World Champion – Harry Edmondson; FIM SuperEnduro World Champion – Billy Bolt; FIM Women’s Enduro World Champion – Jane Daniels; FIM E2 Enduro World Champion – Wil Ruprecht and FIM E1 Enduro World Champion – Andrea Verona.
The successful track specialists were honored by track racing legend Jason Trump. He honored FIM Speedway Youth World Champion SGP3 – Mikkel Andersen; FIM Long Track World Champion – Mathieu Trésarrieu and FIM Ice Speedway World Champion – Martin Haarahiltunen.
FIM Trial Director Thierry Michaud verteilte die Awards in der Team-Kategorie: FIM Women’s Trial des Nations und FIM Trial des Nations – Spain; FIM International Six Days’ Enduro Women’s World Trophy und FIM International Six Days’ Enduro World Trophy – Great Britain; FIM Speedway of Nations – SoN – Australia and FIM Motocross of Nations – USA.
FIM President Jorge Viegas insisted on taking care of the true road racing stars. He invited Valentino Rossi onto the stage to present him with an FIM Special Prize.
Other winners were then honored: FIM World Rally-Raid World Champion – Sam Sunderland; FIM TrialGP World Champion – Toni Bou; EnduroGP World Champion – Andrea Verona; FIM Speedway Grand Prix World Champion – Bartosz Zmarzlik; MXGP Motocross World Champion – Tim Gajser; FIM Superbike World Champion – Álvaro Bautista and FIM MotoGP Grand Prix World Champion – Francesco Bagnaia.
