Filven 2024 inaugurated in GAN spaces

The Minister for Culture, Ernesto Villegas, inaugurated last night the twentieth International Book Fair of Venezuela (Filven) in the spaces of the National Art Gallery (GAN), in Caracas.

At the event, which will run until Sunday, July 21, South Africa will be the guest nation of honor, and for the second time the literary event will take over the GAN facilities, with an extensive program.

In this meeting with letters, the Delta Amacuro state will have an important participation as a special guest, and tribute will be paid to the Ayacucho Library for its 50 years, to Tricolor magazine, for its 75 years, and to the novel Ifigenia, by Teresa de la Parra, for the centenary of its publication.

A great opportunity

It should be noted that Filven 2024 is emerging as a literary and cultural event of great relevance, which will have more than 600 activities, including book presentations, forums, conferences, discussions, a Children’s and Youth Pavilion, and the editorial offer of one hundred exhibitors. , among which are representatives from Argentina, Brazil, China, Cuba, the Basque Country, Honduras, Iran, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa and Mexico. In addition, the presence of 53 international guests and 100 national guests is expected.

Likewise, 10 rooms will be open: South Africa, Benito Irady, Ifigenia, Tricolor, Ida Gramcko, Filven, Nelson Mandela, Ayacucho Library, Delta Amacuro and Kuay Nabaida Children’s Pavilion.

During Filven, various seminars, colloquiums and conversations will also be held, among which the seminars “Woman’s Narrative” and “One Hundred Years of Iphigenia” stand out, the VI Children’s Literature Colloquium “Literature, diversity and innovation” and the VI Meeting of Reading Trainers.

The Minister of Culture, Ernesto Villegas, highlighted that the national writer honored on this occasion is Benito Yrady, “who shows us the union between the written letter and the oral word, so characteristic of the Venezuelan tradition.”

In tribute to Benito Yrady, various books by him will be presented, including a new edition of The Book of Cruz Quinal, A Century with María Magdalena Rodríguez, The Thunder Box and History of Mr. Cody.

Villegas also indicated that Filven honors the Network of Intellectuals, Artists and Social Movements in Defense of Humanity, which turns 20 in 2024.

The minister explained that “the colleagues who come as an advance party from the Government of South Africa have confirmed the attendance of the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture of that country, who is preparing for this responsibility and will accompany us in the final days of the fair.” .

Likewise, he stated that “this fair will also serve to strengthen ties and bring us closer to the culture, literature and history of South Africa, which also celebrates the end of apartheid. This celebration is very important for humanity, not only for Venezuela, because the apartheid suffered by the South African people today has other expressions that want to establish themselves in the contemporary world.”
