Filmmaking in Pakistan will be completely tax free: Maryam Aurangzeb

Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Maryam Aurangzeb, while presenting Pakistan’s film policy in Karachi on Sunday night, has announced that filmmaking will be ‘completely tax free’.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Maryam Aurangzeb made this announcement at a function held in Karachi in which many eminent producers, directors, cinema owners and distributors from the film world were present.

On this occasion, Maryam Aurangzeb also gave health insurance cards to many artists, through which they will be able to get their treatment in any hospital.

Later in the same event, special awards were also given to those who have rendered their services in the field of film and television.

Federal Minister of Information and Broadcasting Maryam Aurangzeb said that in the new policy, not only film production has been exempted from tax, but also no tax will be charged on the income of cinemas for five years.

He said that along with this, electricity will also be provided to cinemas at industrial rates.

According to him, no customs duty will be imposed on all the imported goods related to cinema and film making, while up to 75% tax rebate will be given to film makers in Pakistan.

Maryam Aurangzeb further said that cinemas are being constructed in various centers of Radio Pakistan and PTV across Pakistan, which will promote the film industry.

According to him, 12 new studios are being constructed in Radio Pakistan, for the promotion of which an annual ‘Voice Talent Hunt’ series is being started across the country. In this context, an app called ‘Awaaz Khazana’ is also being released.

“The country’s first music policy has been prepared and it will be formally approved in the last cabinet meeting on August 8 or 9.”

Maryam Aurangzeb in her speech at the ceremony said, “Last time I became minister for 14 months and this time too, I never got full time but I did what I might in limited time.” .’

Later, while talking to Independent Urdu, Maryam Aurangzeb said that in this event, all the big names associated with the film and TV industry of Pakistan are present, which we have officially received from the tax incentives given to this industry by the Prime Minister. informed regarding so that the positive impression of Pakistan can be shown to the whole world through our films and other fields of arts and especially through this ‘screen tourism’ or film tourism is promoted.

On this occasion, PTV Managing Director and Secretary Ministry of Information Sohail Ali Khan told the audience that a new policy has been implemented for artistes from August 1, due to which their remuneration has increased significantly.
