“FILMharmonic Orchestra’s Live Performance of Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi – Bringing Classical Music to a New Audience”

On this May 4th, an informal day of celebration of the Star Wars saga, the FILMharmonic Orchestra announced the presentation of a cine-concert around the film Star Wars Episode VI : Return of the Jedi (1983), May 19 and 20 at Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier.

A total of 78 musicians under the direction of Erik Ochsner will perform the soundtrack imagined by Oscar-winning composer John Williams, while the 2.5-hour film will be projected on a giant screen.

We still hear the dialogue and special effects of the film, but the soundtrack is removed from the audio and is performed liveexplains Francis Choinière, principal conductor of the Orchester FILMharmonique and artistic director of GFN Productions, which is producing the event.

Aged just 26, Francis Choinière is also the conductor of the Philharmonic Orchestra and Choir of Music Lovers (OPCM), which he co-founded in 2016.

Bringing a new audience to classical music

This is the third and last movie-concert surrounding the Star Wars saga to be presented by the Orchester FILMharmonique. Francis Choinière, rising star of classical music in Quebec and Canada, has made it his mission with these events to interest a new audience for classical music.

The cine-concert will be presented on Friday, May 19 at 7:30 p.m., as well as Saturday, May 20 at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available on the Place des arts website (New window).
