Filling up in the Grand Duchy, still a good deal? (Bastogne)

The price of diesel and gasoline continues to climb in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. Is it still a matter of refueling there?

The liter of diesel passed the symbolic bar of €1.50 in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg this Wednesday, February 9. Unleaded 95 petrol also recorded a record price of €1.553 per litre, an increase of 2.6 cents. The surge in fuel prices is real in Belgium and the Grand Duchy. Is it still worth traveling to the Grand Duchy to fill up with diesel or petrol?

The price of diesel is therefore displayed at 1.50 euro per liter in the Grand Duchy this Thursday, February 10 and the price of SP95 is therefore 1.553 euro per litre. That is a difference of 31 cents per liter for diesel and 22 cents for unleaded 95, compared to the maximum price charged in Belgium.

15 euros and 11 euros gain on the maximum price

On a full 50 liters of diesel, the gain therefore amounts to 15.5 euros and on a full equivalent of unleaded 95, you will save 11 euros. Still, you have to travel miles to get to the Grand Duchy, and that costs.

Let’s take a cost of €0.40 per kilometer, in order to take into account the price of fuel, tire wear, maintenance and costs related to the use of the car. With this estimate, driving more than 30 km to fill up with unleaded 95 is no longer interesting. And driving 35 km to fill up with diesel is hardly profitable either (a gain of €1.5).

It should nevertheless be noted that most people who travel to the Grand Duchy take the opportunity to combine refueling with the purchase of alcohol and cigarettes, which makes the trip to the Grand Duchy more profitable.

Low prices in the north of the province

If we refer to the lowest price in the region (at the Waha petrol station) where diesel is displayed at 1.67 euro per liter and unleaded 95 at 1.63 euro per litre, the difference decreases with the Grand Duchy since a full 60 liters will save you 8.5 euros for diesel and only 4 euros for unleaded.

In the south of the province, all the resorts charge the highest prices on the market and therefore if you are less than 30 km away, making the trip remains interesting.
