An informational meeting was held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 between the Deputy Regional Governor for Rural Development of Western Greece, Andreas Filia, officials and producers from Western Achaia regarding the irrigation needs of existing and future crops.
At the meeting, all the necessary measures and initiatives that have so far been undertaken by PDE were thoroughly presented, given that we are in the middle of the irrigation season and with the relative uncertainty about future weather conditions and the water needs of the crops.
The Deputy Regional Governor for Rural Development pointed out that “until today, there is a trend of significant reduction of available reserves, while the problem becomes more intense when there is arbitrariness, waste and reckless use of irrigation water. Nevertheless, since January when we identified the problem, as a Regional Authority we have gone above and beyond with continuous interventions and measures aimed at better managing the irrigation water reserves so that the crops and agri-food products of the region are not at risk.”
