Joan Laporta, president of Barcelona, renewed his support for the idea of the European Super League.
Laporta spoke during Barcelona’s general assembly regarding the club’s economic situation.
“Barcelona saved us,” Laporta said. “We suffered a lot to get here, but we have to keep working because the club is not stable yet.”
He added, “We will not progress without the European Super League. The clubs will control their fate if the Super League begins.”
He continued, “I laugh when I hear government clubs say that it is a tournament for wealthy clubs.”
He pointed out: “The European Super League will be a more equal competition, especially since the European Union does not stop government clubs.”
He pointed out: “We inherited a bad legacy, the problems were many, but we were able to get out of the crisis with creative ideas. Barcelona was in a state of collapse, one of the solutions was to austerity and thus a sporting disaster occur, and another option was to ask for money from the members, but you do not deserve it. You chose us so that we do not hide.” And to do what anyone who loves Barcelona would do: work.”
He revealed: “We tried to negotiate with many players to reduce salaries, but it did not work, and we had to mortgage 10 million euros to register Conde, but we accepted this refusal in a sporting spirit.”
The Laporta administration had activated 4 economic cranes in order to be able to bring in and register new deals.
