Aith her, political science is not of much help, the needle panics in the compass: “jewel” of the N-VA according to a wise observer, “rising star” in common language, Zuhal Demir is tipped as a possible next minister-president in Flanders following the extinguished Jan Jambon, or even as president of the party following the breathless Bart de Wever. This, while being ideologically unclassifiable – insofar as one can ever classify anyone –, unpredictable, disconcerting. It’s not contradictory. It is a “personality”, as we say if we are lacking. “She cultivates a ‘politically incorrect’ side which sets her apart from the Flemish political staff in general, surely the conservative staff who dominate at the N-VA”, explains an observer.
