Ukraine “It has nothing to do with us”
Local media reported that fighting broke out on the 22nd (local time) in the western mainland of Russia, which shares the border with Ukraine.
According to Russia’s Sputnik news agency on the same day, Vyacheslav Gladkov, governor of the Belgorod region of Russia, said, “Ukrainian sabotage (sabotage) groups have entered the Russian territory of the Graivoron region.”
“Russian forces, border guards and FSB security forces are taking the necessary measures to eliminate the enemy,” added Gladkov.
A Russian dissident group, the Freedom of Russia Legion, claimed in a video that it carried out the attack, saying, “The time has come to end the Kremlin’s dictatorship.”
They said, “We liberated the village of Kojinka, and the vanguard entered Graivoron.” “We will advance. Russia will be liberated.”
The ‘Russian Free Corps’ is a group made up of Russians and is supporting Ukraine in this war.
Ukrainian local media also cited military intelligence authorities and reported that the attack was by Russians such as the ‘Russian Free Corps’ and ‘Russian Volunteers’.
“We are watching the events in the Belgorod region with interest, but we have nothing to do with the attack group,” said Mikhailo Podolyak, assistant to the Ukrainian president.
An organization calling themselves “Freedom of Russia Legion” published a video on their Telegram channel.
