Fight against diabetes and high blood pressure: The Heart of Grace Foundation raises awareness of Toumodi

The Cœur de Grâce Foundation organized, in partnership with the Orange Côte d’Ivoire Foundation, a day of awareness and screening for high blood pressure (Hta) and diabetes for the benefit of the population of the municipality of Toumodi.

It was on August 26, 2022, in the said town where nearly 500 people were screened during this operation. There have been 142 cases of hypertensives and 27 diabetics recorded.

This day aims at promote greater awareness and healthier behaviors to prevent hypertension and diabetes, promote early detection, and support environments that promote good health.

Participants in this activity were entitled to a blood sugar test, a screening session for high blood pressure, awareness of cardiovascular risk factors, distribution of flyers on high blood pressure, a consultation with a cardiologist for people identified as hypertensive and medical treatment.

“We want to assess and raise public awareness of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease, promote screening for hypertension and diabetes, raise public awareness of healthy lifestyles to effectively fight once morest these diseases, bring the population to be aware of the threat posed by these diseases,” said Esther Desarmes, Secretary General of the Cœur de Grâce Foundation.

In Africa, hypertension represents the main affection among cardiovascular diseases. It is considered in particular as a major public health problem. According to WHO, 48% of deaths recorded worldwide are due to cardiovascular disease.

By 2030, nearly 23.6 million people will die of cardiovascular disease (mainly heart disease or stroke) and according to projections, these diseases should remain the leading causes of death for a long time.
