the essential
La Gym Volontaire has launched its first workshops for seniors in Grand Figeac, to help them better and age well. An initiative that should develop on the territory.
Sport on prescription: courses adapted for seniors
It was Thursday, April 27 that the facilitator Gwladys Pons began the first of 26 sessions of a workshop with reduced numbers. Open to practitioners with various and varied pathologies, this adapted physical activity workshop (APA) is aimed at people with a loss of autonomy or those who are concerned regarding preserving their “health” capital for as long as possible, guaranteeing independence. and quality of life.
Admittedly, the Voluntary Gym offers a wide range of activities throughout the year likely to meet the demand of all audiences (postural gym, “well-being” gym, and “pilates” are disciplines likely to suit all ). However, in terms of adapted physical activity, it is difficult for the animation team to do “tailor-made” in a gymnasium with between 35 and 40 people. Also the facilitators of Grand Figeac have identified people all falling under a more personalized physical approach.
Well-being and the fight once morest isolation
The Lot voluntary gym departmental committee then signed up for a project funded by the CFPPA (conference of funders for the prevention of loss of autonomy) in order to avoid dropping out – during the season – of physical practice. . Objective: to reactivate people who have given up all effort, or are experiencing balance problems and need muscle strengthening. Ten people were present, including two who came for observation. Of the eight seriously involved in the project, an interesting representation is noted with two men and five people from isolated areas of Grand Figeac.
Gwladys Pons, a facilitator trained in the Gasquet method and in the correction of pathologies linked to aging, was interested in the profile of these volunteers: many have had or fear loss of balance. Others notice muscle relaxation. It is for these pathologies that the facilitator plans, through a structured program adapted to each individual, to find long-term solutions.
Sitting on stabilized “Swiss balls”, the volunteers were able to talk freely with Gwladys Pons regarding their pathologies and their expectations. Listening and good management of the problems experienced will enable them to acquire well-being, self-control and the fight once morest isolation.
It is planned to extend these workshops to Cajarc, Rueyres, Issendolus and Sousceyrac. Possibilities of opening are also being studied in Cauvaldor (area of Souillac and Le Vigan).
