SES today announces that two more O3b mPOWER satellites have been successfully launched into space. The SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket departed the Space Force Station in Cape Canaveral, Florida (USA), today at 4:08 pm local time. With the fifth and sixth satellites launched, the O3b mPOWER system completes the six in Medium Earth Orbit (MEO) required to deliver high-performance, predictable, low-latency network services with unique flexibility and service availability.

Last month, SES announced that it will add two more Boeing-built satellites to the constellation, bringing the total number of O3b mPOWER satellites to 13. The additional investment amount is expected to be covered by SES’s current capital investment commitment. The first four O3b mPOWER satellites, launched last year, have reached their target orbital position and are undergoing in-orbit checks, including a system validation test series covering space and terrestrial components.

In 2023, SES launched and tested more than 160 O3b mPOWER terminals over the existing O3b constellation to serve mobility, telecommunications, government and enterprise customers.

“With the launch and go-live of the fifth and sixth O3b mPOWER satellites in the coming months, we are preparing to deliver the high-performance connectivity services our customers need. By building resilience into the network, we are confident that our customers will be able to count on us to provide the reliable and secure connectivity they need to run their operations,” comments Ruy Pinto, CEO of SES.

O3b mPOWER commercial service is expected to begin in the second quarter of 2024. For additional information regarding O3b mPOWER, visit Press room.
