Sadio Mané (30) will not be able to play in the World Cup in Qatar. Injured in the right fibula, the Bayern Munich striker is forfeited for the competition, announced the Senegalese Federation.
Earlier today it was reported that Mane was undergoing treatment in Munich and there was still hope that he might join their squad for their third Group A game once morest Ecuador on November 29. But this is now out of the question.
“Unfortunately, today’s (Thursday) MRI shows us that the evolution is not favorable as we imagined and we unfortunately resolve to declare Sadio’s withdrawal from the World Cup”said the doctor of the selection, Manuel Afonso, quoted on the Twitter account of Senegal.
Mané was injured on November 8 with Bayern in the league once morest Werder Bremen. The recent second of the Ballon d’Or will therefore be sorely missed in Senegal, which he led in February to victory in the African Cup of Nations.
Coach Aliou Cissé must now find a replacement for Mané. He has until Sunday, the day before Senegal enters the competition once morest the Netherlands.
