FIFA Warning: Brazilian Football Confederation Faces Sanctions Over Presidential Dismissal

This was made known by the governing body in a letter sent directly to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). Everything centers on the recent dismissal of President Ednaldo Rodrigues, ordered by a court in Rio de Janeiro on December 7.

As is already known, Fifa is opposed to the governments of each country interfering in the decisions of the federations and that is why it has decided to send a notification to the CBF so that Rodrigues returns to his position permanently, before they can be subjected to serious sanctions such as the suspension of all its national teams, including the senior team that is preparing to face the Copa América in 2024.

The Rio court ruling also appointed José Perdiz, president of Brazil’s highest sports court, as intervenor to organize new elections for the presidency within 30 business days. In this regard, FIFA said in previous letters to the CBF that it considers this intervention to be inappropriate.

The document revealed this Sunday by the AP agency (The Associated Press) was signed by Kenny Jean-Marie, director of member associations, and the deputy secretary general of Conmebol, Monserrat Jiménez García.

FIFA and Conmebol also said in their letter that they are committed to forming a commission to discuss the matter in Brazil, no later than January 8. “Until this mission is carried out, no decision that affects the CBF will be made, including elections or calls for elections,” the letter states.

“If this is not respected, FIFA will have no choice but to present the matter to its relevant decision-making body for consideration and resolution, which might also include a suspension,” the letter adds.

This notice seeks to make it clear that the intervention of the Brazilian government in the CBF is frowned upon by FIFA and that, if not corrected, they are willing to block the participation of the only team that has been present in every World Cup in history. .

“In the interest of good order, we would also like to underline that if the CBF were ultimately suspended by the relevant FIFA body, it would lose all its membership rights with immediate effect and until FIFA lifts the suspension,” they add.

The news has fallen like a bucket of cold water for the Verdeamarela fans, who were already suffering from the team’s recent results under the orders of coach Fernando Diniz.

The possible sanction would not only harm the objectives of Brazil as a team, but also of all the clubs that participate in international tournaments such as the Copa Libertadores and the Copa Sudamericana. “This would also mean that CBF representative and club teams would no longer have the right to participate in any international competition while it is suspended,” FIFA rules.

It is worth remembering that the Rio de Janeiro court removed Ednaldo Rodrigues from his position for alleged irregularities in the process that led to his election last year.
