The extent of the transactions in this summer’s international transfer window appears in a new report from the International Football Association (FIFA).
The figures for the same period last year were 10,490 individual transfers with a total value of 7.43 billion dollars, equivalent to just under 80 billion kroner.
Thus, the summer’s spending did not quite reach the conclusion for 2023.
English clubs led the way in money spent on new players. A total of NOK 18 billion was spent on the ball island, while NOK 13.3 billion came in as a result of sales.
Even smaller clubs such as Bournemouth, Brighton and newly promoted Ipswich spent more than 100 million dollars, equivalent to well over a billion, on new players.
Italy closely followed England in money spent with NOK 8.8 billion, followed by France (7.4 billion) and Spain (6.4 billion).
Italian clubs spent almost double the 4.5 billion they received for player sales.
The biggest single transfer was Argentina striker Julian Alvarez’s change of club from Manchester City to Atlético Madrid. The trade had a total price tag of 882 million plus additional payments.
In women’s football, spending more than doubled from 2023 to a record high NOK 72 million distributed among 1,125 players who changed clubs.
