The International Football Federation (FIFA) announced this Friday in a statement that it has decided to “close the disciplinary procedure” that it had undertaken once morest Ecuador for the case of a possible improper alignment of Byron Castillo, without indicating any sanction.
The disciplinary procedure had been opened in mid-May, following the accusation of the Chilean Football Federation, and made Ecuador fear in recent weeks for its presence in the Qatar-2022 World Cup, for which it achieved its classification and in the which is framed in group A, along with the host Qatar, the Netherlands and Senegal.
“The FIFA Disciplinary Committee has made a decision on the possible non-compliance of Byron David Castillo Segura with the call criteria to participate with the national team of the Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) in eight qualifying matches, corresponding to the phase preliminary of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022”, FIFA explained in its text.
“After analyzing all the documentation received from the parties, the FIFA Disciplinary Committee has decided to close the disciplinary procedure initiated once morest the FEF,” he said.

FIFA pointed out that the decision was notified this Friday to the affected parties and that the term for possible appeals is now open.
“In accordance with the FIFA Disciplinary Code, the parties have ten days to request the reasoned decision, which, if requested, would be published on legal.fifa.com. This decision can be appealed before the FIFA Appeal Committee”, he pointed out.
The complaint of the Chilean Football Federation before FIFA was for “use of false certificate, false declaration of age and false nationality” of Byron Castillo, considering that he was born in Colombia.
The Ecuadorian Football Federation (FEF) rejected the accusations and had assured in a statement that Castillo is “duly registered with the competent legal authority” and that he has “all the national documentation in order.”
