It’s official. This Tuesday, October 11, the FIFA confirmed to CONMEBOL which increased the number of teams qualified for the World Cup (from 2026 onwards) and the start date of the South American Qualifiers. Find out all the details below.
For starters, the next World Cup, to be held in Mexico, Canada and the United States, will see 48 countries vying for glory. In this format, Conmebol will no longer have four and a half slots to a total of six and a half. That is, if the country that ends in the playoff zone wins its tie, the South American continent would have seven representatives.

Another point that was confirmed was that the Qualifiers, in this part of the world, will start to be played from March of next year. The format will be the same, all once morest all in two rounds back and forth.
