FIFA adopts the “semi-automated” application for the 2022 World Cup

The International Football Association (FIFA) announced the use of semi-automated infiltration technology in the 2022 World Cup, which will be held in Qatar at the end of this year.

FIFA said in an official statement today, Friday, that the semi-automated infiltration provides a support tool for match officials and video referees, to help them make decisions faster and more accurately.

It is worth noting that the new technology is an extension of the video rule system, and relies on dedicated cameras installed in several places on the field and connected to certain points in the body of each player to accurately locate the players and detect infiltrations.

The new technology collects player data at a rate of 50 times per second and provides recommendations for video referees and arena referees.

FIFA had applied the technology experimentally in the 2021 Arab Cup and the Club World Cup in early 2022.
