Don’t ever call it Fifa again. As faithful to the start of the school year as Amélie Nothomb, the thirtieth edition of the flagship football simulation video game – part of the select club of XXL video game franchises in the same way as Call of Duty – is launched this Friday. Except that this year, the game will not be called “Fifa 2024” but “EA Sports FC 24”, after three decades of “licensing” between the video game giant Electronic Arts (EA) and Fifa.

The reasons for this divorce which caused a lot of noise at the end of 2021? The two ex-partners were notably unable to agree on the financial terms relating to the renewal of their ten-year contract. The international football federation, which received $150 million per year under this agreement, is said to have asked for more than double, according to the “New York Times” .
