Lucerne will have to go up a handicap of two goals next Thursday in the 3rd qualifying round of the Conference League. The central Swiss club lost 3-1 in the first leg at Hibernian in Edinburgh.
The goals were all scored in a much livelier second half than the first. The Scots opened the scoring as soon as Newell (46th) returned from the locker room, following a ball lost by Frydek. The visitors replied to a header from Beka following a corner (56th), but the “Hibs” regained the advantage in a good way thanks to Sale (73rd).
The two teams touched the frame of the opposing goal by Doidge for the Scots (78th) then by Dorn for the Lucerne (79th) in an unbridled end to the meeting. A catastrophic error from Jashari allowed Obita to go and sign the cruel 3-1 in the 90th.
This late success obviously complicates the task of Lucerne a lot. Mario Frick’s men will need to pull off a perfect game to turn the tide. And, above all, avoid making gifts in the defensive zone…
