But the fire spread to the dry stubble in the field and spread extremely quickly – fanned by the wind towards the adjacent forest. “We got there quickly,” says the head of operations. “But what was really great was that the neighboring farmers came straight away with slurry tanks and water. They saw the fire from a distance. And one of them is a firefighter himself, so they were well informed.”

With combined forces – 35 members of the Niederwaldkirchen volunteer fire department arrived – the fire was brought under control and finally extinguished. However, the baler burned out completely.
