THE INTERNATIONAL BASKETBALL FEDERATION (FIBA) wants to massively develop basketball in Indonesia, especially among young people, one of which is by opening their representative office in Jakarta which was inaugurated on Tuesday (17/9) by President Joko Widodo.

“We want more young people, both boys and girls, to play basketball,” said FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis as reported by BetweenThursday (19/9).

Andreas continued, FIBA is confident that increasing the quantity of basketball players in Indonesia will also improve the quality of the sport.

Therefore, not only is it an effort to enliven basketball in society, Andreas emphasized that FIBA will also provide various facilities to support its human resources.

One thing that FIBA is targeting is to produce many quality coaches so that Indonesia has more capable basketball players.

“Of course, for that we will work together with our federation here, namely Perbasi,” said Andreas.

For Ardima, the existence of FIBA has a positive impact on the national basketball world.

“The presence of a FIBA office in Indonesia will bring a positive impact to the national basketball world both in terms of achievements and industry. We also hope that the presence of FIBA can further cultivate the sport of basketball in Indonesia, of course in collaboration with Perbasi and support from the government,” he said.

The inauguration of the FIBA Office in Jakarta makes FIBA the second international sports federation to have an official office in Indonesia after the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA).
