The FIA ​​(International Automobile Federation) has officially announced the cancellation of the 2022 F1 Russian Grand Prix.

Following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, F1 issued a statement on Thursday, February 24th. He stated that it was “impossible” to race in Russia, but added the phrase “in the current situation”, leaving a gray zone that might be interpreted as an interruption rather than a cancellation.

The FIA ​​will hold an extraordinary general meeting of the World Motor Sport Council on Tuesday, March 1st. It has officially decided to cancel the F1 Russian Grand Prix in 2022.

“At the suggestion of the F1 commercial rights owner, the 2022 F1 Russian Grand Prix was canceled because of unavoidable forces,” the FIA ​​said in a statement.

The F1 Russian Grand Prix was scheduled to be held on September 25th as the 17th round. F1 is optimistic regarding alternative venues, but considers that it is the first triple header in the flyaway of Round 18 F1 Singapore GP (October 2) and Round 19 F1 Japan GP (October 9). There is a need.
