FIA authorizes Rally1 without hybrid

This measure will only concern private drivers who wish to race in the premier category at probably lower costs and less complexity. Rally1s without a hybrid will have to carry a dummy block with characteristics identical to a classic hybrid block, while an additional ballast of 10 kg will also be added.

In 2023, only four private drivers have rented a Rally1: Lorenzo Bertelli in Sweden (Toyota), Pedro Heller in Chile (Ford), Jourdan Serderidis on four rallies (Ford), and Grégoire Munster in Chile and Central Europe (Ford). The case of Jari-Matti Latvala with Toyota in Finland is obviously different.

For technical enthusiasts, the FIA ​​has published precise regulations for “Rally1 without hybrid”:

Rally1 type cars without hybrid unit are accepted under the following conditions:
– These cars cannot be nominated to score Manufacturer points.
– These cars must comply with Article 262 / Appendix J and their Ra1 homologation form, with the exception of the points mentioned below:
– The hybrid unit must be replaced with a dummy hybrid unit meeting one of the following options:
1) Reuse of the existing carbon box without internal components + ballasts (location to be confirmed).
2) Dummy HPS of identical size and dimensions / dimensions and material (to be confirmed).
– Location, position and minimum mass of the dummy hybrid unit:
a) Location and position: In accordance with the Ra1 approval form.
b) Center of gravity / height: Must be equal to or greater than that of the hybrid unit.
c) Minimum mass (90 kg for the dummy HPS + 1 ballast of 10 kg to add to the car).
– The supports of the hybrid unit must comply with the Ra1 approval sheet.
– Cooling system for ES and MGUK: Not applicable / can be removed.
– The safety indicator and the operating light must comply with the Ra1 approval form.
– Sound modules: Not applicable.
– Shaft between the hybrid system and the rear differential: Can be removed. No other modifications are permitted to the rear differential except for a cover or plug required when the hybrid shaft is removed.
– ECU software: Must be approved for Rally1 HY / see Ra1 approval form.
– Sensors: Only sensors related to hybrid cooling can be removed.
– Actuators: Only actuators linked to hybrid cooling can be removed.
– Inspection hatch to access the electrical connections of the hybrid system: Must be closed / steel panel mandatory.
– Bodywork: Battery cooling (ES) – MGUK and inverter conduits and cooling – Conduits can be removed (Appendix J) => the resulting openings must be closed.
– Bodywork: The approved trim for cooling the hybrid system (ES / MGUK battery and inverter) can be replaced by body panels with a continuous surface.
– FIA data acquisition system: No modification is authorized.
