The spiritual capital of the Kingdom commemorates, as usual, its 14th annual day this Thursday, an unmissable event for revisiting its glorious past and its thousand-year-old history.
Established in 2011 at the initiative of numerous organizations, including the wilaya, the commune and prefectural council of Fez, as well as the Sidi Mohamed Ben Abdellah University and the “Moroccan Forum for Environmental Initiatives”, this commemoration is an opportunity to debate problems from which the city suffers in order to establish it as a competitive, innovative and sustainable city.
The spiritual capital of the Kingdom, founded on January 4, 808 by the Idrissids, contains emblematic monuments with sumptuous architecture, including its medersas, its Koranic schools, its mausoleums and its mosques, in addition to its multiple craft workshops and its famous tanneries capable of strengthening its influence and its international appeal.
Cradle of the struggle for Moroccan independence, Fez, an imperial city steeped in history, continually works to further consolidate its development and growth within the framework of a global territorial planning policy.
Also equipped with the famous Jnan Sbil garden and its famous noria as well as other historical sites as captivating as each other, the Idrisside city, with its historic and centuries-old urban fabric, is trying as best it can to reconnect with its past of yesteryear. , thanks to the program for the rehabilitation of the historic monuments of the ancient medina of Fez and other urban projects dedicated to safeguarding the civilizational heritage of the spiritual capital.
Celebrated at the initiative of numerous civil society associations active in the fields of heritage preservation, environmental protection and the dissemination of citizenship values, this annual day aims to examine and debate the mechanisms to even to realize the commitments signed on January 4, 2011 to implement ambitious development projects and programs, bringing progress and prosperity for the city’s population.
It is also an opportunity to examine the means that allow the city to regain its place as an intelligent, renewable and sustainable metropolis through the strengthening of green spaces in the different corners of the city and the fight once morest forms which mar its urban landscape, including ruins and abandoned spaces, in addition to opening a debate on the prospects and challenges of the city’s development.
As an opportunity for exchanges, debates and questions on the state of affairs of the city and its future vision, this annual day is also an annual meeting to launch an appeal to local elected officials in order to address the constraints that slow down further economic take-off of the city and putting it on the right track.
Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1981, the city of Fez tends to reconnect with its prestigious past and to highlight its ancestral heritage, its historical monuments, its Borjs and its Walls.
