Feyenoord, which qualified for the quarter-finals of the KNVB Cup last Wednesday at the expense of PSV, had a hard time in the first half. Twente had its affairs in order defensively and might blame itself for not taking the lead, because the Tukkers created the best chances.

Clumsy moment

First it was Daan Rots who turned away from his opponent following a pass from Mathias Kjølø, but the Twente attacker shot wide. A little later, Michel Vlap committed a blunder by being offside in a very clumsy manner.

The attacker was on his way to Feyenoord’s goal during an outbreak with Joshua Brenet, but Vlap forgot to hold back during Brenet’s decisive pass, resulting in him receiving the ball in an offside position.

Before the start of Feyenoord-FC Twente, club icon Jozef Kiprich received a tribute from the Rotterdam team:

Immediately following the break, Feyenoord failed to take the initiative. Gimenez received a push from Twente defender Robin Pröpper in the sixteen-meter area, following which referee Allard Lindhout awarded a penalty to Feyenoord.

Gimenez then saw goalkeeper Lars Unnerstall make a good save on his penalty and David Hancko was also unable to pass the goalkeeper on the rebound.

Feyenoord had the best game in the second half, but Arne Slot’s team did not become dangerous either. Hancko made it 1-0 with a shot that went narrowly wide and just before the end the Slovakian shot over from close range.

In the final phase, Feyenoord’s frustration became visible when left back Quilindschy Hartman briefly had a fight with the Twente bench. It remained an incident.
