Fewer trips in the ÖBB eastern region from February 12th

Due to the current train cancellations and delays, ÖBB is temporarily canceling 50 of 2,700 daily local trains in the eastern region from February 12th. The 1.9 percent reduction in supply is necessary “to ensure reliability,” said Klaus Garstenauer, board member of ÖBB-Personenverkehr AG. The restrictions will last until Easter, the ÖBB announced on Thursday. As new trains are delivered, the measure could be withdrawn step by step.

Only regional traffic in Vienna and Lower Austria is affected. The S3 will run between Korneuburg and Floridsdorf 84 instead of 102 times a day. This means that at least a 30-minute cycle will be maintained on this route, the federal railways assured. From Korneuburg, passengers can switch to the half-hourly REX3 to Floridsdorf.

On the R40 connection from St. Andrä-Wördern to Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof, the timetable including the S40 will be reduced from 116 to 108 trains. ÖBB advises that passengers can alternatively take the S40, which runs every half hour. In addition, four trains with single-deck sets will be run between Vienna – Wiener Neustadt – Deutschkreutz or on the Franz-Josefs-Bahn towards Gmünd in order to be able to use the usual double-deck sets on other routes.

The total of 50 trains will be removed from the timetable “so that the rest can be reliably available to our passengers again,” emphasized Garstenauer to the APA. The goal is to increase the workforce in the workshops and keep the restrictions as short as possible. However, the thinning of the timetable should bring stability until the Easter weekend at the end of March. Even if usual trains are canceled for affected passengers, the ÖBB is expected to improve the situation overall. “The criterion is reliability,” said Garstenauer.

In a press release, the Federal Railways apologized again for the recent problems caused by delays in the delivery of new trains. In addition, there are currently “more trains in our workshops than planned,” explained Garstenauer. Passengers should be informed about the reduced timetable via timetable information from Scotty and from employees on the affected routes.
