New participation record with 2,000 singers at the 25th Wiener Jugendsingen
Vienna (OTS/RK) – “The positive effect of music is undisputed. It relaxes, stimulates, helps to express feelings, promotes concentration and social skills, connects people and cultures, creates solidarity and strengthens the sense of community. That’s why I’m particularly pleased that we can inspire so many young people to sing in Vienna, one of the world’s music capitals. My big thanks go to all music enthusiasts for their valuable and sustainable music education work in and outside of schools,” said Heinrich Himmer, director of education, at the celebratory concert.
Deputy Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr adds: “Vienna can look back on a very long musical tradition. That’s why I’m so happy that this tradition is also upheld in the Viennese schools and is lived out every day. The festival concert by over 1,000 schoolchildren and their teachers in the ballroom of Vienna City Hall is not only an absolute highlight for the musicians themselves, it is also a sign of the value that singing and making music enjoys in this city!”
In Vienna, 2,000 singers presented themselves to the public in a two-day song festival in mid-April at MuTh. A total of 63 school and extracurricular choirs, 28 of which were elementary school choirs, performed and faced the top-class jury. The finale was the festive concert with around 1,000 students and their teachers in the beautiful ambience of the ballroom in the Vienna City Hall. As part of the celebratory concert, the certificates were awarded and the nominated choirs announced, which will represent Vienna at the National Youth Singing Festival from June 26th to 29th in Klagenfurt.
“In this competition we see how young people express their talents and passions in a moving way. The more opportunities they have to do this, the better. I am very pleased that so many young people took part and that we will accompany the winning choirs to the national final and that we will keep our fingers crossed for them here once more,” says Vucko Schüchner, Managing Director of WIENXTRA.
These four Viennese choirs will take part in the Bundesjugendsingen 2023 in Klagenfurt:
- Klassen.chorus.h12.7c” of the AHS Hegelgasse, 1010, with choirmaster Johannes Hötzinger
- “BogaVox24” by the BRG Boerhaavegasse, 1030, with choirmaster Beate Langer-Oelz and choirmaster Ulrich Permanschlager
- “Royal Voices” – extracurricular choir with choir director Theresa Hemedinger
- “Take Nine” of the KPH Strebersdorf, 1210, with choirmaster Martin Kettner
The Austrian Youth Singing is Europe’s largest choral event for children and young people and takes place every three years. In the run-up, the state youth singing takes place in all federal states. The focus is on the joy of singing together.
The Wiener Jugendsingen is organized by WIENXTRA in close cooperation with the Vienna Education Directorate and the City of Vienna.
