Coming to light in early July, Ferrari’s Hypercar has entered a more intense testing phase with a view to its entry into competition next year. There is still a lot of mystery around this machine, which we have only been able to see on carefully selected photos or videos, of deliberately dimmed quality, and which evolves with a camouflage livery. To date, not only its official name remains unknown, but so are its technical specifications, especially on the engine side.
Despite very structured communication, Ferrari announced on Friday that it had completed a new private test session which lasted three days. The Italian manufacturer, which will be associated with AF Corse for this program, went to drive on the Lusitanian circuit of Portimão. The development program continues until the first race in which the car will participate, in the spring of 2023 at Sebring, the opening round of the FIA WEC.
Five drivers took turns at the wheel, confirming the will already hammered by Ferrari to rely on in-house drivers and in particular from its GT program. Thereby Alessandro Pier Guidi, James Calado, Antonio Fuoco, Miguel Molina et Davide Rigon were invited to these tests. Some of them also took the opportunity to also test the new Ferrari 296 GT3, which will succeed the 488 in competition for Prancing Horse GT engagements.
“The Algarve circuit was an excellent testbed for different types of testing, particularly focusing on various configurations of set-up”says Ferrari regarding the tests carried out this week. “The changeable weather over the three days made it possible to alternate between dry and wet track sessions.”
For its return to the fight for the general classification next year, notably at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ferrari has chosen the LMH regulations by designing its car entirely, as have also done Toyota, Glickenhaus and Peugeot.
