Ferrari F1 to introduce Red Bull type side pod at F1 Spain GP[F1-Gate.com]

Scuderia Ferrari will undergo a major upgrade of its machine in three stages over the next few races. The Italian version of Motorsport reports that a “new version” will appear on the track around the F1 Spanish Grand Prix. A world title fight seems unlikely for Ferrari this year. After three races, Charles Leclerc is in tenth place with Carlos Sainz in fifth, 30 points behind him in fourth in the constructors’ standings. So within the team we are working hard to make changes that will allow us to move forward for the rest of the season.

For the time being, Ferrari has stubbornly stuck to its own sidepod design. It was jokingly called a bathtub because of its wide, bowl-shaped design. Ferrari had previously announced that it would introduce the downwash sidepods at Imola, but they are now being introduced at Barcelona two races ahead of schedule. The key change is the switch to ‘downwash his sidepods’. It’s the sidepod design introduced by Red Bull last year and now nearly all cars have it in some form. In the meantime, other changes have also been made. A new diffuser will be fitted next in Baku and the rear suspension will be tweaked at Imola two races later. Two more races later, in Barcelona, the new design will be completed with the addition of sidepods. The roadmap was drawn up following it became clear in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia that the current options were not viable. And in Australia, Ferrari have gathered enough information to pinpoint the exact problem so the team can start working on upgrades in the coming weeks.
