The GTO is the progenitor of Ferrari’s premium models.
The official name is simply GTO, but in order to distinguish it from the 250GTO, it has been called 288GTO among enthusiasts and has become popular.
It was planned to produce 200 units + α of the obligatory production volume in order to obtain approval for Group B regulations. However, as soon as it was announced, orders flooded in from all over the world, and in the end, 272 units were sent out.

The 288GTO peaked at $2.75 million in Arizona in 2015 and then declined, but it will rise once more to $3.36 million in Arizona in 2019 and €3.464 million in Paris in 2022.
By the way, the number of units exhibited at major auctions in recent years is 1 in 2022, 0 in 2021, 1 in 2020, and 0 in 2019, making it the most difficult premium model to obtain.
In this trend, the 288GTO that appeared at the Monterey auction in August was equipped with an air conditioner, power windows, and black leather seats.
It was sold at an authorized dealer in California, USA in 1985, and since then has passed through six owners, and entered the Pinnacle Portfolio Collection in 2011.
