The fire was violent. The flames were visible for several miles. The building and its contents, including several cars, were destroyed.
The firefighters of the NAGE rescue zone (Namur and Éghezée stations) intervened with an important device, under the direction of Captain Covens. There were two pumpers, a large ladder and three tanks on site, one of which was sent as reinforcement by the Hesbaye rescue zone.
Luckily no injuries were reported. The street was closed to traffic during the operations by teams from the Arches police area.
According to the Namur public prosecutor’s office, the origin of the fire is probably accidental. The hearth would have been born in a vehicle presenting a technical failure. The presence of an oil tank and other accelerating products contributed to the violence of the fire.
An investigation is underway, the images of surveillance cameras will be analyzed.
