The White-and-Reds lost 2-3 to Moldova, although they were leading 2-0 and are only fourth in the qualifying group. Especially after the second meeting, the discussion about the shape of the defense resumed, which was very uncertain and lacked a clear leader. From the beginning of his term in the Polish national team, the Portuguese coach decided not to appoint players who deserved for the national team. Among them are Grzegorz Krychowiak, Kamil Grosicki and especially Kamil Glik. Journalists “Sports Review” asked Santos about the possibility of including the defender in the September matches of the national team.
– There are never closed doors in the Polish national team. Together with my assistants, we are constantly analyzing the possibilities and any player who is fit and healthy can be called up, even if he has not received such a call-up from me before – said the coach.
During the first training camp of Santos, Glik was treating an injury, and before the second training camp, the coach and his associates apparently decided that he was not in sufficient shape. The defender, along with Benevento, was relegated from Serie B and will be without a club from June 30. If he finds a club and is in good shape, he can return to the squad where he has played 103 times.
Santos also argues that the staff can change at any time. Even the players who have been appointed by the selector so far cannot be sure of a place in it. “The players that I have already called up must be aware that a place in the national team is not reserved forever,” summed up the Portuguese.

The Polish national team will play its next matches in September. First, on September 7, she will host the Faroe Islands in a home match, and three days later, she will travel to Tirana for a match against Albania. Both matches will be played as part of Euro 2024 qualifiers.
