Fernando Medina: El Tiburón, the man who attacked a Subway employee in San Luis Potosí, was shot to death

Fernando Medina, alias El Tiburón, who became known in 2023 for beating up the employee of a fast food restaurant in San Luis Potosí, was shot to death this Monday in this same town. Known as the “Subway shooter,” the man has been shot outside his martial arts gym, according to local media.

The victim was attacked while leaving his gym in the General I. Martínez neighborhood, south of the capital of Potosí. Medina, who was trying to reach the truck he had parked, was shot seven times by a gun, according to what the State Civil Guard told the news outlet Pulso de San Luis Potosí. The capital force was the first to go to the scene of the murder, until several agents from the State Prosecutor’s Office moved to the outskirts of the victim’s business. At the moment, the Potosí justice entity has not provided information about the murder.

“The Subway attacker,” who was an expert in martial arts, became known in July 2023 for brutally beating the 15-year-old employee of a fast food establishment in San Luis Potosí. Thanks to a security camera at the premises, it was possible to see how the victim, who at no time attempted to defend himself, received Fernando’s harsh punches. After leaving his victim on the ground, The Shark is seen saying something to the boy and leaving the establishment’s kitchen, while the young man’s co-workers close the door and try to help him.

The video caused a stir on social networks, which prompted the State Prosecutor’s Office to activate a search warrant against Fernando. After the first images in the Subway, other recordings came to light in which it is seen how Fernando took advantage of his knowledge in martial arts to attack his victims with excessive brutality. After spending several days hiding from justice, El Tiburón was finally arrested on August 5 of last year. The governor of San Luis Potosí even echoed the case by promising that there would be “justice for Santiago”, the boy whom Fernando had attacked. After being in preventive detention, the attacker’s defense managed to ensure that he was not charged with attempted murder and he was released from prison in December of last year.
