Fernando Alonso would do what only one person in the world has done so far

Like it or not, Fernando Alonso’s Formula 1 career is endless. The 42-year-old, two-time world champion Spaniard is well aware of this, but he is by no means preparing for his retirement, but rather his retirement from F1. And as he revealed to the website of his current team, Aston Martin Racing, he still has very serious plans behind the wheel.

“There are always goals to be achieved, but for now I’m focusing on Formula 1. Obviously, it would be fantastic if they could be world champions again, namely with Aston Martin. I think this would be my career, but it might be the highlight of my whole life,” he said, a bit emotional, then he turned to his post-F1 goals.

“The Dakar victory is also on the list, and of course the Indy 500, but I think that I have very little chance left for the latter. But I can still do the Dakar, and then I would achieve something unprecedented in the history of motor sports: Formula- I’d be World Champion #1, Le Mans winner and Dakar winner” – Alonso said.

The Spaniard already completed the Dakar in 2020 with a Toyota, then he finished 13th overall, which is a very good result for a rookie.

He made three attempts at the legendary Indy 500 between 2017-19, but in 2018 he didn’t even qualify, his best result being 21st place in his (so far) last attempt with an Arrow McLaren.

The F1 championship title, the 24 Hours of Le Mans victory and the Indy 500 victory are the holy trinity of motor sports, i.e. the Triple Crown, which so far only one person, the two-time Formula 1 world champion (1962, 1968) Graham Hill has known to do it.

Only 13 were able to reach two of the three branches of the crown, the last of them being Fernando Alonso.
