Fernando Alonso of the Alpine F1 Team finished the free run on the first day of the 2022 F1 Round 3 Australian Grand Prix in 4th fastest time.
“There were some minor issues that were a little behind in Free Practice 1, but we still had a pretty normal day for us,” commented Fernando Alonso.
“We’ve completed a fair amount of driving and got a lot of information from both sessions. There are some balance issues that need to be resolved, especially when driving with fuel.”
“I just saw the track yesterday and the changes are positive and I think the laps are much faster. I’m not sure if there will be more overtaking on Sunday, but let’s see. I’m definitely back here in Melbourne. That’s great. “
Team mate Esteban Ocon also performed well on the first day with 6th fastest time and the Alpine F1 Team.
“First of all, it’s great to drive back here in Albert Park, and I was able to see the changes made,” Esteban Ocon said.
“Overall, it was a very positive day for the team as both cars finished in the top 10 in both free practices, but it’s important tomorrow and Sunday, which will be very tight like Bahrain and Jeddah. I already know that. “
“Especially in the midfield, the competition is fierce, so we will work together towards qualifying. It should be pretty exciting and I hope the team will be in a good position for the race tomorrow.”

“For today’s performance, I was pretty happy with the car in both practice sessions, but I still have more work to do to get the most out of the soft tires, especially in the first time lap of qualifying.”
“I ran medium and hard tyres on high fuel to assess race performance, which was in line with the simulation.”
