Yet one of the largest towns in the north of Ivory Coast, Ferkessédougou (commonly called Ferké) seems to be completely sidelined from the country’s celebrations, awakened by a new year of the African Cup of Nations. football (CAN).
The town of Ferkessédougou is the capital of the Tchologo region, bordering Mali and Burkina Faso. It is therefore a place that cannot be ignored. However, a significant amount of time had to pass before residents might appreciate, as elsewhere, the progress of CAN 2024 in Ivory Coast.
Indeed, demands have been raised once morest the mayor of the city, Ouattara Kaweli, in order to correct this slight problem which in reality has no reason to exist. “The CAN exists everywhere in Ivory Coast except in FERKESSÉDOUGOU”, was once posted on the official page of the city, emphasizing on the occasion towards the executives of Ferké, “the youth is not happy with you” .
It was only recently that the mayor of the town decided to finally react. Following a few complaints regarding the CAN village, Mr. Kaweli kicked off the opening of the CAN village located at the multipurpose center by officially handing over animation kits to 128 young volunteers from the municipality.
