Fenerbahce won their 7th Turkish Cup on Sunday, defeating Basaksehir (2-0) at the Gürsel Aksel stadium in Izmir, thanks in particular to a double from Michy Batshuayi in the first half.

Batshuayi quickly opened the scoring from the first minute. Shortly following the kick-off, he was launched in the axis by Arda Guler and dribbled past the opposing goalkeeper before finishing in the empty net. The Red Devils striker (50 caps, 27 goals) doubled the bet (29th) on a cross from the right and sheltered his team for the rest of the match. Batshuayi came out at the very end of the game, replaced by Serdar Dursun (90th +1).

Adnan Januzaj did not start for Basaksehir. After his team’s disastrous first half hour of play, coach Emre Belozoglu made a triple change (34th) and the former Manchester United and Dortmund player replaced Serdar Gurler.

Fenerbahce wins its 7th Turkish Cup, the last dating from 2013. The Istanbul club is the 4th most rewarded club in the Cup behind Galatasaray (18), Besiktas (10) and Trabzonspor (9). Basaksehir has never won the Cup, despite three finals: 2011, 2017 and therefore 2023.

In the league, Fenerbahce finished 2nd with 80 points, 8 lengths behind rival and neighbor Galatasaray, led among others by Dries Mertens. Batshuayi and his family are qualified for the second preliminary round of the Champions League.
