Technological innovations showcased at FENACAM 23 accelerate the growth of aquaculture in Brazil

During the National Shrimp Fair (FENACAM 23), which takes place from November 14th to 17th, in Natal (RN), producers will be able to closely monitor trends in the sector
Since it officially emerged in Brazil at the end of the 19th century, cooperativism has been fundamental in the trajectory of national economic development in several sectors. In fish and shrimp farming, it was no different and important organizations are accelerating the advancement of farms using the most modern production technologies in the country.

Paraná is present at FENACAM 23

Paraná, for example, which is known as the birthplace of cooperativism, stands out in raising tilapia in tanks. According to Jorge Henrique Cidemar Alab, technical analyst in fish farming at Superbac, a pioneering company in the Brazilian biotechnology solutions market, the state is one of the most technologically advanced. Proof of this is that there are fish farms that only have one employee looking following 20 hectares of water or even more. “How is this possible? With technology. The property system is completely automated, integrated and can be managed remotely from a cell phone or computer without the need for manual work,” he highlighted.

Among the tools already available and used is the automatic feeder installed in each tank. With this solution, the producer makes the programming and the system automatically distributes the feed at the right time and in the right quantity, thus eliminating the need to do this arduous manual work, in other words, much more practical, efficient and economical.

Innovations for aquaculture

Another important innovation for the sector today is the oxygen probe that works to control the aerators. Its operating system is simple, but extremely relevant. “In practice, this probe monitors and will only activate the aerator when necessary, due to lack of oxygen, due to some programming or even situations of strong heat”, says the specialist.
Thus, the creator, in addition to practicality, has another important gain: energy savings. “Before that, many producers, as a precaution, left the aerators on all night. Furthermore, they did not monitor oxygen, something that increased their production costs”, says the fish farming technical analyst. “Today it’s different, you can remotely turn the aerator on or off, check the temperature and even oxygen,” he added.

Other, even more advanced technologies already allow measuring the pH of water, the amount of ammonia and even nitrites. In other words, without touching the tanks, remote creators can have all this data directly on their cell phones. “Systems are also being developed to monitor fish growth. There are automated scales installed inside the tanks and when the fish passes through them, they record the animal’s weight. And they continue to do this several times during the day”, says Alab.

Northeast moves towards innovation

Just as the South and Southeast stand out in fish farming with the cultivation of tilapia, the Northeast has a greater vocation for Shrimp Farming, a technique for raising shrimp in ponds, with Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará as the main producers. According to the Superbac specialist, although the region does not have the same cooperative strength as other states, it is moving steadily towards the technology of production. “This advance did not happen at the same pace as fish farming due to characteristics, but today there are technologies in this sense that will certainly help with this gain”, he says.
Producers will be able to see many of these new solutions up close during the National Shrimp Fair – Fenacam 23, which takes place from November 14th to 17th, at the Natal Convention Center (RN). In this 19th edition, the event will feature symposiums, technical and scientific presentations with the participation of renowned national and international speakers, in addition to the presence of several companies in the sector.
Among the exhibitors will be Superbac, which will bring visitors technologies for aquaculture. Among the company’s highlights at the stand will be Organpesc, a biostimulator for application in shrimp and fish ponds and for solubilizing nutrients (Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium) and making it available for the proliferation of phytoplanktons (microalgae), which serve as a food supplement of animals bred in captivity.
“This is the biggest event in the segment in the region, so it is important that we are there. Organpesc is a product widely used by local producers, mainly from Rio Grande do Norte and Ceará, which are the main shrimp breeders in Brazil”, says biologist, Monique Zorzim, environmental engineer and new business manager at Superbac.

More details regarding aquaculture

In fish farming, when the tank is filled there is a quantity of phytoplankton, which would be microalgae, zooplankton and microscopic crustaceans present in the water, they are important for the balance of the ecosystem. If there is excess or shortage it might be a problem. “Organpesc will serve as a nutrient for the formation of phytoplankton and zooplankton, consequently. It is a product for initial application, to get the nursery started”, explains the biologist.

Another notable Superbac product for the sector is Bioboost, a liquid formulation biostimulator for the degradation of organic matter present in fish tanks. By controlling water quality, the biostimulator provides other benefits in a secondary way, because the fish respond productively with greater food conversion, better growth and a stronger immune system. Furthermore, Bioboost makes it possible to increase the population density of the nursery, reduce the cost of mechanical cleaning and reduce the cost of water.

About Superbac

Founded in 1995, Superbac is a pioneer in the Brazilian biotechnology solutions market and has the most modern biofactory in Latin America, where more than 70 researchers work. Leader in bioinnovation and reference in the replacement of production processes, it is a provider of sustainable and economically viable solutions, formulating specific blends of microorganisms and enhancing their effects to solve demands in the most different segments, such as: agriculture, sanitation, oil & gas, consumption, pharmaceutical, cosmetics and human and animal food.
