During the meeting of the Council of Ministers on Saturday, the Congolese head of state deplored the deaths and the damage. He called for calm, asked the Minister of the Interior to scrupulously supervise the demonstrations and denounced a disinformation campaign.

Félix Tshisekedi notably said he was waiting for the first results of the investigations, starting next week. To this end, some members of the government were dispatched to Goma. The Congolese Head of State and his entourage believe that there is ” handling behind this violence. He denounces these enemies of the Republic who raise the specter of the withdrawal of Monusco, ” not out of love for the Congo but to serve their interests “. Among the solutions to reduce this tension, he advocated appropriate communication to fight misinformation.

Faced with the situation, certain ministers and those close to the Head of State do not hesitate to point out that in the region, Paul Kagame, the Rwandan Head of State, accused of supporting the M23, is more hostile to the presence of Monusco in the region.

To members of the government, Félix Tshisekedi reminded that the history of cooperation with Monusco is not only strewn with failures, but also ” many successes “. As a result, he is keen to respect his country’s commitments to the United Nations Security Council. Thus, he declared that he was particularly following the gradual and staggered withdrawal plan of the UN mission, by 2024.
