Félix Baumann: “The war in Ukraine contributed to the failure of the Conference on nuclear weapons”

Gathered since 1is August at the United Nations in New York until Friday night 26, the 191 States parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT) failed to adopt an outcome document at the Tenth NPT Review Conference. Given the deleterious international context and the increased nuclear threat, this failure is not good news for the nuclear non-proliferation regime which came into force in 1970. Swiss Ambassador to the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva, Félix Baumann spent the whole month of August in New York. It takes a sharp, critical look at the reasons for failure and the way forward.
