After more than 20 years, the song “Murder on the Dancefloor” is back in the British charts – thanks to the hyped film “Saltburn”. Actor Barry Keoghan dances naked through a large estate to the song in a pivotal scene. Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s song has now reached number eight in the UK, the Official Charts Company announced on Friday.
It was said that the song was back in the top ten for the first time in 22 years thanks to the “Saltburn” effect. According to her own statements, singer Ellis-Bextor did not expect the success. “It feels really magical,” she said, according to a BBC report.
The black comedy “Saltburn” has recently been available to stream on Amazon Prime Video and tells the story of a student (Keoghan) in Oxford, England, who befriends a rich and beautiful fellow student (Jacob Elordi). They spend the summer together at the family country estate. With fatal consequences.
Director Emerald Fennell won an Oscar for best original screenplay with “Promising Young Woman”, and in her new film she now satirically deals with the British upper class. The film is also discussed for its unusual sex scenes and brutal twists.
“Murder on the Dancefloor” isn’t the first song to return to the charts because of a film or series. Kate Bush’s “Running Up That Hill” made it back into the hit lists thanks to the series “Stranger Things” and reached number one for the first time in 37 years.
