Logistics company FedEx announced this week that it will launch a new “data-driven commerce platform”. The company’s service seeks to help other companies manage their supply chain, sell to customers and manage deliveries.

According to the FedEx, the new platform will go into operation during the fall in the United States, which takes place between the months of September and November. This service must arrive to compete with a giant in the sector, Amazon.

Called fdx, the new platform announced should combine FedEx’s existing commerce tools, with features that will be launched with the aim of creating a “personalized post-purchase experience”, as highlighted by the company.

The platform will also build on existing tools from ShopRunner, an e-commerce marketplace acquired by FedEx in 2020. The company cited that brands will be able to provide customers with more accurate order or inventory information.

In response to the website The Verge, FedEx’s global relations manager, Christina Meek said that the company does not want to enter the marketplace market, but rather to provide companies with “digital capabilities and insights” for the customer experience.

Competition with Amazon is expected to intensify with the arrival of fdx, as Jeff Bezos’ company is seen as a major threat to FedEx’s business. FedEx has been losing ground to Amazon, as has UPS, and hopes to change that scenario.
